Thanks so much for taking the time to read our blog! We really appreciated the almost 100 comments and nearly 1,000 pageviews. The students won't have any posts describing our final day, but feel free to look at the pictures for "Day 10". The students finished their thank you notes, addressed the envelopes, explored the Heritage Tree Museum, and a had a picnic with food from all over the world. Thanks again for all your support these past two weeks; a lot of learning and fun took place!

Eating Brunch at Dairy Queen

Ordering at Dairy Queen was my first time because I've never gone to eat there before. But now, I know mostly everything about what I can order. I'm not scare no more about that, I just try my best to order. Also I know how to call the food name and also i can order all of the foods well actually just the food that I like and if I can buy it all.

Before we went to Dairy Queen we were learning about the money and what are the coins call. They're a lot of bills like they're  way more bigger than 100 dollar bill it could go up to 100,000 but only who are ḧighter" in society. Most normal people ho work for the rest of their lives are most likely to just see the 100 dollar bills and lower but they're bills that are like WAY HIGHER! Well I hope that everyone gets to see one of the dollars that are very rarely seen with people like us. (sorry for no picture, but there wasn't any fom the morning well hope you enjoy this)

Good lunch to eat

Yesterday in the morning we learn how to use money like coin, dollar, credit, and debit. For example, you could buy food with a dollar, credit, debit, or coin. But you need to have enough money to buy the thing that you want. But if you don't have any dollar, then you could use your credit and debit card too. That is all the thing that we have learn in the morning of yesterday.

Yesterday at the afternoon we go to dairy queen and learn how to ordering food. It was a nice place to sit down and eat food. Went we buy food, we pay them the money of how much the food cost. Then we get some change back if only we pay more than the food cost. For example, if the food only cost $5 and we don't have $5 but we have $10, then we could pay them by $10 and get $5 back. That is what we did yesterday at dairy queen. It was a fun day and that is the most happy day ever of the summer school.

9th Day , Dairy Queen

That day in the morning we learned the names of the coins and money. For example in the coins we have pennies that is 1 cent, nickels that are 5 cents or 5 pennies, dimes that are 10 cents or 10 pennies and cores that are 25 cents or 25 pennies. We have money of different quantity, $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 there the dollars bills that usually we see or we have but are others higher bills that usually have them the rich people.

We also learned how to order food, so we went to Dairy Queen to practice how to do that and of course for eat some. When we were there we ordered food and they made us more questions that the questions that we practiced, some of us asked for help. The food doesn't was too expensive so the most of us bought some of food and everybody was having funny talking about different things and taking pictures.

Day 9th Go To The Dairy Queen

Yesterday we learn about money. We learn how to use coins and bills and change back. We learned how to order foods at a restaurant. We practice with our peers how to order food we need it to know the name of the food and how much is it. We have to know the food names. After ordering food we need to say thank you.

It was a good experience for the people who order food for the first time.  You have to we ready for the order when the server ask. The food in the restaurant was not that expensive. The server have to work hard to remember the order. If you eat there the server will serve for you if you tell that is to go the server will put it in the bag. If you tell  them that you going to eat there they will bring you food in the plate.

DaY 9: Ice Cream

At the morning we learned about money, ordering and we learned about the credit, debit, bank. Also, we learned how to say the food name. When we came to the Dairy Queen, they will ask at the end that "do you like to go or for here"? and always at the end we have to say thank you. Then they tell us how much the price is, as we give then the correct money.

We had a lot of fun ordering and looking at new foods. Well the best part was to eat. As you can see our friend enjoying his meal, with a big smile.

Well it was for sure one of the best days of this project. We learn language by talking to new friends.
We had lots of fun, ordering foods, eating with friends, and enjoy our best day.

Fun Fun Time Learning How To Order Foods At Dairy Queen!

In the morning before we go to DQ, we were learning about how to ordering food. We look in the pictures and see what kind of foods are there in Dairy Queen. We practiced our ordered with our partner. Then we learned kinds of coin and dollar bills. It is safe to put your money in the back and you can also make money by saving it there.
After we practiced how to order and use money, we went to DQ to used the knowledge that we learned. We were nervous and excited before we get in to DQ. But when we get in there, everyone were having fun
and enjoy their foods. And last every tables were full of food and smiles. It was a good time and nice to see everyone tried and happy with their foods.

Morning activities and Dairy Queen

Today in the morning we did some good activities over money and ordering food. I learned about the names of coins, dollars and how to do some math.  When Mrs. Hernandez started asking us how you called the ten cents coin I didn't know its name but gladly now I know it, it is called a dime.
This really helped us get prepared when going to Dairy Queen because we use money to pay and knowing how to use the money it's very important. Our next activity was ordering food with partners, Mrs. Green wrote a sentence in the board so we could start that way.

Later after we all had practiced we headed over to Dairy Queen, I'm not going to lie that I was very nervous because it was my first time ordering something and in front of Mrs. Green. What I ordered was a packet of a hamburger with a drink, ice cream and fries or onions, it was very cheap, it was worth only five dollars. I had a good experience today and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be more comfortable next time I go to a fast food restaurant and order for family and friends.

the day to buy a car

Yesterday we go to Fitzpatrick and we learn about credit score. If you want to buy a car you need to have a good credit score and if you don't have enough money to buy a car, the Fitzpatrick will let you loan to buy a car. But if your credit score is bad then you can't buy a car and that is very important to you. That is what we have learn at the Fitzpatrick, and we also learn about the other credit card too. It very fun to learn about this thing.

We saw the Fitzpatrick building  and what they do. Also they show us how can get credit score and what is a good credit score and a bad credit score. They told us to get a good credit score we have to do our payments on time. Also we saw the body shop and server center, there are many type of cars.we saw sports cars like a corvette c7 and camaro ss an electric car and utility cars but the best part was when they spoke to us if we want a car is important have a good credit score.

8th day, Fitzpatricks

The day that we went to Fitzpatrick's they told us about the importance of having a good credit score to be able to buy a car, borrow money, buy a house and others expensive things. We need credit to buy some of these items. To have good credit we have to pay bills on time, be responsible with credit and debit cards, but if we don't have good credit we can also pay with cash if we have the money to pay a car.

Fitzpatrick's has a service center with 11 people, body shop, collision repair with 4 people, and you can take your car and they can repair any car, they have 50 different jobs at their company. Another interesting fact about Fitzpatrick's is that you have a guarantee on your car if you buy it there. Something important that we also learned is that we must be 18 to buy a car, another way to buy a car is that our parents buy it for us.

Fitzpatrick's Visit

Fitzpatrick's is a very big car store in Storm Lake. There are many type of cars and good services. There are around 50 people who work in the Fitzpatrick's. They have different type of jobs and college degrees.
To buy a car in Fitzpatrick's you must be 18 year old or above. Also your credit scores must be 700+ to own a car.
In Fitzpatrick's they have many types of car's model. Camaro, Silverado, Camaro, Volt and many other more that you can pick from Fitzpatrick's. Credit card is important for you to buy a car and you need to be responsible and pay your bills on time. If you don't have good credit, you can also pay cash for a car. Jobs that available in there are service center, body shop, and collision repair.

Looking at the Cars at Fitspatrick's

In the picture is when Mr. O'bannon was giving us a tour on the back and showing us all the cars that they have for sale. Mr. O'bannon explain about the cars and he was showing us how to buy a car and you should have good credit if you want to buy a car  if you can't pay a car  you have to make a phone call and  explain that you need more time to make your payments. You can also get bad credit score if you apply to many store's credit cards are sometimes cn like ruin all your plans with like buying a house or a car.

This was when we were like on the back of the maintenance shop. This was were they take the new cars and check their tires and all systems before they take it with the people who buy the car. They also like check and check your oil, tire, and aldo like the main thing and also like check the engine and like the main things that they're having trouble with.

Day 8th Go To Fitzpatrick

We went to Fitzpatrick on June 11, 2014. We learned a lot about cars and about credit card. They explain to us about what a bad credit is and what a good credit is. If you want to loan a money to buy a car you have to have a good credit. To make a good credit you have to pay your bill on time. To be a salesperson you have to have 4 years of college.

     `
They have a place where they fix the cars. They wash the cars everyday. They have about 11 workers that work in the body shop. You can buy supplies for your cars there and they have most of everything for your car supplies. You must be 18 to buy a car, but if you can ask your parents to buy a car for you. They always replace the old cars brand to the new cars brand.

Day: 8

We went to Fitzpatrick's car sales. We saw a lot of different cars. Actually there's was a model that there's only 550 in the world, a beautiful automobile. As we look at awesome cars, we also looked at the prices. Cars are as expensive as buying a house. I didn't know that these place existed in Storm Lake, but is like a paradise for a car.

They told us that there's mostly fifty people working in Fitzpatrick's car sales. We learned almost all of the jobs there. Also a nice lady talk to us about credit score, why it is important, why we need it, how to get it up (or down.) We also want to thank Doug for giving us the tour. His profession was a salesman.

Fitzpatrick's visit.

Today we had a tour at the Fitzpatrick's car sales, there was a lot of different kind of automobiles but I really liked one of them, it had a beautiful color like pink and purple put together, it was really nice but expensive too.
One of the ladies in there talked to us about all the different things you can do to buy a car, it was very interesting what she said about credit and debit cards because I didn't know that a credit card was neither a debit one. Now I know what they function for. A credit card is where you can charge money but a limited amount and from there you borrow money to buy things and when you have a debit is where all your money from the bank is in there and when using it you automatically are paying with the money from  your account.
I learned a lot from this visit and I'm thankful with the people that were there be cause they were so nice.

Buena Vista Regional Medical Center More Knowledge For Us Who Want To Be A Nurse.

Buena Vista Regional Medical Center (BVRMC) is the hospital in Storm Lake. BVRMC is a big building, there are 3 floors. The first floor is the emergency room, the second is the pregnancies and the babies room, and the third floor is the medical room. There also have clinic, cafeteria, and cafe latte inside the building.

To be a nurse you will take college for at least 4 years. Several nurses take care of the infants in the OB unit center. Everytime the baby born they play a song melody and it makes people feel happy to hear the melody. There are about 30 babies born in a month at the BVRMC. The average baby suppos be about 6 pounds and the nurses check their body temperature every time to make sure the babies are healthy. When the baby turn yellow it called jaundice and it is a bad sign because it can cause brain damage.

There are many jobs opportunity in BVRMC. There are different degree to get each job in the BVRMC. For example most nurses need to have 4 or 2 years degree. People can also volunteer at the coffee shop because it is good for their resume and it is important to use yourself in a helpful way. People who volunteers will get more jobs experience. Other jobs that are available in there are translator, Chef and cooks, nurses, and doctors.

7th day, Hospital

Yesterday we went to the hospital and they showed a building for differents jobs in the hospital. For example, they have different place like infants born , doctors , nurses, X ray tech, and many job in the hospital. They have a special like living room, Library, swimming pool, quiet room/church, coffee shop, valet parking, and also elevators that help the people get to places faster.

One interesting job is the Ob nurses that are in charge of the babies that born there. Each month 30 babies are born, that is about one baby per day. The Ob nurses are checking each 30 minutes if the babies are breathing correctly and if their temperature is right too. Others think that they have to make sure when a baby born is their weight and the skin color, because sometimes the color skin can be signs of a sickness.

There are also some color lines that helps people to get a different places, is important to know that the hospital has also translators that can help you to have medical care even if you speak a different language.
They have a special room of therapists that help people with disabilities in their bones or another part of their body, they have a swimming pool that is part of the therapies because many of the exercises happen at the pool.

Care For Others

At the hospital on the second floor is a every beautiful place. It clean and smell nice because that is where the baby are. Also when a baby born, there will be a beautiful sound that will tell everyone that there were a new baby born. After the baby born it will lost weight because the baby will need to move around, eat and drink, so that why they will lost weight. The second floor is only have one door because it will keep the baby safe, and that will make the parent don't worry too much. It a really nice place for a newborn baby.

Also we saw many kind of difference jobs, like nurses, paramedic, receptionist physical occupation therapist, lab people and many others. From the paramedic room we learned what they do and how answer to  an emergency,we saw the ambulance  and the stuff there were. The nursery job was very interesting many things they have to do for example take care of the infants. Also  we learned how the medical server work.
We saw many professional people and how they take care about their jobs and the patient.

The people that have patient in the hospital they can go to the church room to pray for their patient. The people can also go to coffee shop too, all people can visit their family and can buy flowers for  them. The people can go to the restaurant of the hospital too, they have good food. Also the people can go to the  gym for to be exercised and can go to swimming pool too.

Visit to to the Hospital in Storm LAke

We went to the hospital and we got to learn a lot things and we saw where the baby stays after they're born. We know most about babies that are born they get warmer, cry a lot, and if their skin turns yellow it would damage their brains and they would have something with their liver. Also they check the temperature every few hours because, sometimes their body temperature gets too hot or too cold.

There's plenty of jobs like being a nurse, interpreter, cooks, paramedic, and mostly they are doctors, The time that takes to be a nurse it would have to go to college for four years and get a degree in medicine. People like to have experience with new things like give tours and volunteer for things that they would enjoy showing to people with no experience at all.

They're a lot of rooms and they're divide it into sections of type of injury or age. I think that one if the most important is the baby section because there're  should be really careful because little babies are like really exposed to everything and they should take care if them more often and with more care. The rehab room is where they encourage people to exercise while they're getting better and mostly work on muscles and also like they try to also work on things like cardio if you have any heart problems that way you cab get better while you're in the hospital, they also have a swimming pool with a treadmill and also water jets that way you can exercise like more intensive in water and by walking in the water it makes your body less stress because the buoyancy force takes less weight against you and it's pretty nice to have all those privileges while rehabilitating in the hospital.

Day 7th Go To A Hospital

We went to the hospital on June 10, 2014. We went to see and learn some of the stuff at the hospital that we never seen before. We know that they have a cafeteria inside the hospital. They open for public. We know for sure that hospital is a medical care. They have flowers shop and cafe. We see a lot of rooms and a lot of nurses. Is was kind fun to see a lot of stuff inside the hospital.
They have a special room that is call quiet room. You can sit in that room and think and they have the special thing inside the room, like bible. In the clinic they have a place where they take care of old people. When a new baby is born they play a song for a baby. When the mother give birth to infant they take care of the baby right away. They check the weight of the baby and the skin if is yellow or not. They have only one door to get in and out for guard if someone steal the baby.
They do have a lot of jobs available at the hospital. They have nurse job and chef that work in the cafeteria. They have doctor position available of course. Some of the outside can volunteer to help the hospital like tour guide. They have cooking position and cleaning position. They have security to guard the hospital for some reason if someone steal the baby. They have x-ray position to apply and work their. Both of the gender can work as a nurse, but they need man the most for the muscle.
They have people to help you at the parking lot to carry your stuff. The surgery room is at the first floor. They have an exercise room for the old people to work out. Before you go to the hospital, you don't have to call and make appointment you just walk in. If the case is so bad they will call the helicopter and bring you to Sioux City.

Day 7

THE HOSPITAL:  We went to the hospital, and we learn a lot, a lot of different things. I didn't know they had a weight room, or a pool to exercise and get well. Also now I know what those blue and red spots in the carpet mean. One goes to the hospital and the other one to the clinic. We saw a lot of people, who go and take shots, get medicine, and that work there.

But the best of the best, was the second floor. We got to see where the women give birth. Also the little shelf where they literally checked everything in a baby when is born. For example, they checked the color screen, if it is yellow it can be something about brain damage. But one of the most important things is the heart rate.

I also learned something really cool, the third floor from the Hospital is mainly offices. Offices like the chef, etc. Also they offer meals in the weekends. The elevator goes to 3 floors of course and it could carry all of us. They have a coffee shop that the workers go to relax etc. There's a quiet room, that you can and pray, or just stay strong.

Hospital

Visiting the Hospital was a good experience, we got to see almost all of the things in there like the rehabilitation room, the room where a baby is delivered and where they keep them warm. We also went into an ambulance and got to see the cafeteria which it was great because it is a public one and I didn't know. When we first went inside the hospital we had rules to follow the first one was no talking and the second one was no playing around, I think that we did a good job following them. What I found really funny was when we got into the elevator, we were like 25 people in there and a little bit heavy but we all fitted in there.
After getting off the elevator there was a lady who explained to us all questions we had about babies, it was very interesting that once a baby is born they have to work and check a lot of things to make sure that the baby is safe. When babies are born the nurses check their skin because if it is yellow it may cause them to get brain damage. It is really hard for babies to adapt to a new environment because they had over nine months in their mom's belly so they have to be as warm as they were so now nurses try to hand the babies to their mom so they can feed them and keep them warm because they also want to get rid of the white things a baby has in their eyes or bod.
The Hospital also counts with a rehabilitation room with physical and therapists people that help older persons rehab my making them do exercise and different kind of activities. This room has a wonderful swimming pool, I loved it I also wished that I could touch the water, I found it so unique for people that need to get better. When we were upstairs we went into an interesting room, a quiet room where families, friends any people can go and take their emotions out because of something wrong happening, people pray in there, stay there to have a quiet moment and also there is bibles.
We enjoyed this Tour, it was very interesting all the things that we saw also knowing that there is over four hundred people serving to the hospital and that they also count with a BVU clinic.
